Imagining a Radically Different Palestinian Future

Al-Shabaka Announces a Call for Papers for Its Members

Settler colonial and colonial regimes often seek to control perceptions of reality in order to make a future free of colonialism seem impossible for indigenous and colonized people. Imagining an experience beyond the colonial reality is thus a rebellious and radical act. Today, when Palestinian futures are being discussed and negotiated without Palestinian input, and as Palestinians face relentless dispossession and other forms of colonial violence at the hands of the Israeli regime, it is increasingly critical for Palestinians to engage in radically different imaginations of the future.

Al-Shabaka therefore seeks proposals for a paper series by Al-Shabaka members that invites Palestinians to imagine a future that breaks from colonial temporal and spatial boundaries. Potential topics include, but are not limited to, the right of return, political leadership, the economy, development, architecture, and urban planning.

Papers should be approximately 3,000 words, should combine documented information, analysis, and policy recommendations, and should aim to set the stage for new debate. Please email an abstract or outline to [email protected] with the subject line “Imagining a Radically Different Future.” Proposals will be accepted on a rolling basis throughout 2020.
