Yara Hawari joins Brighton & Hove Palestine Solidarity Campaign to discuss mainstream Western media coverage of the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

Brighton & Hove Palestine Solidarity Campaign are delighted to be joined by Yara Hawari, renowned Palestinian academic, co-director of Al-Shabaka (The Palestinian Policy Network), political commentator and now published author of ‘The Stone House’, for this Brighton – Palestine Connect meeting.

Mainstream Western media coverage of the ongoing genocide in Gaza has highlighted the deep dehumanisation of the Palestinian people and the level at which they will go to protect the Zionist settler colonial project.

As brave journalists in Gaza risk their lives to cover the Israeli regime assault and share the reality on ground, most Western mainstream journalists have been ignoring basic ethical codes of the profession- preferring instead to spread dangerous misinformation and delegitimize Palestinian voices.

The consequences of this are not simply relegated to the epistemological realm, rather they have very serious material implications for Palestinians in Gaza and beyond. It is thus not an exaggeration to say that the Western media is complicit in the ongoing genocide that is being committed in Gaza.
