Brazil and Palestine: Sources of Identification
How might we understand Israel’s system of Apartheid? This class will focus on the concept, structures and practices of Apartheid. It will begin with a general overview of the concept, including its legal definition and historical cases, most notably in South Africa. The class will then explore various dimensions of Israel’s system of Apartheid—physical, ideological, infrastructure, and institutional—and end with a discussion of how it might be challenged, and if possible, dismantled. Samer Abdelnour is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh Business School. Much of his research examines the organizational dynamics of entrepreneurship and humanitarian technology interventions in postwar and violent contexts. In addition to his academic work, he has served on the boards of various social enterprise and non-profit initiatives, including Al-Shabaka, a global Palestinian think tank he co-founded.
