Co-led by writer and researcher Mariam Barghouti, whose work focuses on intra-Palestinian and intra-Israeli power dynamics as well as gender dynamics in Palestine & Dr. Yara Hawari, writer, and Senior Palestine Policy Fellow for Al-Shabaka: The Palestinian Policy Network, the talk will look at how last year a new intersectional feminist movement called Tal'3at emerged in response to the many issues facing Palestinian society. In light of the seventy-second year of the ongoing Palestinian Nakba, Dr. Yara Hawari and Mariam Barghouti will look at Tal'3at to explore how liberation (from patriarchy, colonialism and capitalism) has developed through Palestinian women’s historical and contemporary efforts to recentre the fight against gender-based violence as part and parcel of the wider national project.

Mariam Barghouti is a Palestinian writer, researcher, and political commentator based in Ramallah. Her research focuses on intra-Palestinian and intra-Israeli power dynamics as well as gender dynamics in Palestine. Her political commentary has been featured in Al Jazeera English, Huffington Post, The New York Times amongst others. Her journalistic bylines include Middle East Eye, OpenDemocracy, The Intercept, Al Jazeera English. She is also a lecturer of Sociology at the Arab American University in Palestine.

Dr. Yara Hawari is a Palestinian writer, academic and political commentator. She is currently the Senior Palestine Policy Fellow of Al-Shabaka: The Palestinian Policy Network. She completed her PhD in Middle East Politics at the University of Exeter, where she taught various undergraduate courses and continues to be an honorary research fellow. In addition to her academic work which focused on indigenous studies and oral history, she is also a frequent political commentator, writing for various media outlets including The Guardian, Foreign Policy and Al Jazeera English.
